Kate Toon

Kate Toon has more than 25 years of marketing experience across consultancy work, copywriting and, more recently, search optimisation and digital education. She founded The Recipe for SEO Success, an education platform combining courses, community support and a podcast, and created Australia’s first DIY SEO course, written for business owners with no technical background at all. The platform has now helped more than 10,000 businesses make sense of SEO and Google.

The teaching came out of the practice rather than the other way round. While building her copywriting business she built a high ranking website that produced a steady pipeline of clients, so she found out what organic search is worth as an acquisition channel before she taught anybody else about it. Her work joins website optimisation to SEO copywriting, using content to pull in relevant traffic while still being readable by an actual human.

She teaches beyond search too, covering email marketing and conversion, which puts organic visibility inside the process that turns it into revenue rather than leaving it as a number on a chart.

Her work has been recognised across the industry. Serpstat named her the No. 1 Woman in SEO, and Semrush recognised her community. She has spoken on search and related disciplines in Australia, Europe and the United States. Across all the courses and communities the aim stays the same: take technical SEO concepts and make them usable by people who are never going to be specialists, which is considerably harder than teaching specialists.
